November 10, 1932 - Rev. Norman Pipe came to
Simcoe from Toronto to minister to a small nucleus of believers in
Ramey's hall. He was only promised a place to live at 33 King Street.
November 14, 1934 - A Baptist Church was organized with nine believers now using
Turvey's store as a meeting place.
Autumn 1935- Land was Purchased at the corner of Maple and Head Streets at a
cost of $350.00. A new building began.
January 26, 1936 - Nineteen persons moved from the store to their new building
and became Bethel Baptist Church. Additions to the building were made in 1938,
1944, 1948, and 1953.
November 1957 - It was recorded that up until this time there were 489 persons
baptized and attendance moved ahead steadily to 600 with an active bus ministry.
A fifth addition became in 1962.
1949 - A radio ministry began in Brantford thence to Simcoe until 1992.
1971 - Pastor Pipe retired from active pastorate after 39 years.
December 11, 1972 - Pastor Harry Strachan began his ministry at Bethel, coming
from Markham with his family.
September 1975 - A Christian Day School opened with 17 students
September 1979 - Introduction of a Bible College.
April 27,1980 - Congregation moved to a new church on No.3 Highway.
Autumn 1989 - Education wing was officially opened.
July 1992 - Pastor Strachan retired after 20 years of ministry at Bethel.
September 1992 - Pastor Kevin Schular and family were introduced to the congregation
and he became pastor of Bethel. He pastored until July 1, 1997 then Pastor Roy
Thompson served as interim pastor until May 1998.
July 1,1998 - Pastor Mark Bohman and his family began ministering at Bethel.
*A gym and educational building was constructed between 1996 and 1997 and is
used for fellowships, the Christian school and sports activities. The Christian
Day School, has Jr. Kindergarten through Grade 12.
